EDDIE "MONSEWER" GRAY
Image of the English music hall comedian in his trademark stage
costume
Photograph signed: Best Wishes/Eddie Gray". B/w, 3½x5½.
Edward Earl "Monsewer Eddie" Gray (1898-1969) was a British music hall
comedian known for trademark "Cockney French" dialect, and for his stage
costume: the wire-rimmed glasses and walrus mustache shown here.
Apprenticed to a troupe of jugglers at age 9, Gray turned this skill into a
comedy routine. He performed solo, and also with the Crazy Group. Gray
appeared in the London premiere of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the
Forum (1963). Adhesive residue at bottom margin. Slightly worn at corners.
Otherwise, fine condition.
