EDDIE "ROCHESTER" ANDERSON
Jack Benny's foil on radio, television and film is shown on a horse in a black and white publicity photograph.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Sam Klank/Best wishes/Rochester". B/w, 8x10. Stamped on verso: "Photo by M. Smith, New York". Originally hired to play a one-time guest spot as a porter on an episode of Jack Benny's radio show ("Train Ride to Hollywood", March 28, 1937), comic actor Eddie Anderson struck such a chord with audiences that his association with Benny lasted 20 years. Best known for his role as "Rochester", Benny's butler, Anderson also starred with Benny in the classic films Man About Town (1939), Buck Benny Rides Again (1940) and Love Thy Neighbor (1940). Depicted as a cowboy here, Anderson also appeared in Three Men on a Horse (1936). Lightly rippled at top. Surface creases, ¼-inch tear in upper right margin. Mounting remnants on corners of verso lightly show through.
