EDDIE ANDERSON
The Black comic actor signs his autograph as his most famous
character, Rochester.
Inscribed signature: "To Diana/Hello/From/Rochester", 5½x3½
album leaf. "96" written in unknown hand at upper right margin. Unknown
signature on verso. Originally hired to play a one-time guest spot as a
porter on an episode of Jack Benny's radio show ("Train Ride to Hollywood",
March 28, 1937), comic actor Eddie Anderson (1905-1977) struck such a chord
with audiences that his association with Benny lasted 20 years. Best known
for his role as "Rochester", Benny's butler, Anderson also starred with
Benny in the classic films Man About Town (1939), Buck Benny Rides
Again (1940) and Love Thy Neighbor (1940). Anderson also appeared in
Three Men on a Horse (1936). Lightly creased. Nick at upper blank edge.
Minor show through of writing on verso touches writing. Slightly shaded at blank
right margin, irregular left edge from removal from bound book. Overall, fine
condition.
