music to the city, EDDY ARNOLD (1918-2008) was one of the most popular country
artists of all time, virtually dominating the charts in the 1940s and 1950s.
Initially influenced by cowboy singers such as Gene Autry, Arnold charted
28 number one hits and has sold over 85 million records. His top recordings
include "I'll Hold You in My Heart (Till I Can Hold You in My Arms)" (21 weeks
at number one), "Bouquet of Roses (19 weeks at the top of the charts), "What's
He Doing in My World?" and "Make the World Go Away". He was inducted into the
Country Music Hall of Fame in 1966. Country music singer/songwriter
FARGO writes upbeat songs about love, home and America. In 1972 she
had two big crossover hits on the pop charts, "Happiest Girl in the World" and
"Funny Face". She continued writing and performing despite developing
Multiple Sclerosis in 1979. JERRY REED, (1937-2008) a songwriter and
popular session and tour guitarist, had singles of his own, including his
biggest hit, "When You're Hot, You're Hot" (1971). He also appeared in
films, often with his friend Burt Reynolds, including all three of the
Smokey and the Bandit movies (1977-1983). WILLIAMS' musical style is
rowdy "outlaw country", influenced by Southern rock. Initially popular in
the 1960s, he made an impressive comeback from a near-fatal mountain climbing
accident (1975), which required reconstructive surgery and learning to talk and
sing again. He had a string of No. 1 country hits, peaking with three in 1981
("Texas Women", "Dixie On My Mind" and "All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled
Down)". He was named Entertainer of the Year by the Country Music
Association in 1987 and again in 1988. He had 15 consecutive gold or
platinum selling albums. Stray ink mark at bottom center. Fine
condition.
