EDGAR ANSEL MOWRER
The Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist signs a typed letter to literary critic and historian Lewis Mumford for his recent article in the Times
Typed letter signed: "Edgar Ansel Mowrer", 1 page, 8½x11. Washington D.C., October 2, 1944. To "Mr. Mumford," in full: "This is just a word to thank you for your recent letter to the Times concerning Mr. Matthews' inhuman reaction to the killing of the Rome fascist. As usual, you have said what needed to be said, better than most of us can say it. Yours very sincerely," Edgar Ansel Mowrer (1892-1977) won the Pulitzer Prize for Correspondence for his reporting on Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany. The achievement subsequently led to his appointment as President of the Foreign Press Association. Beginning as an editor of Chicago Daily News, Mowrer traveled Europe to report on both World Wars between 1913 and the late 1930's. His notable works include Germany Puts the Clock Back (1933), The Nightmare of American Foreign Policy (1948) and Triumph and Turmoil: A Personal History of our Time (1968). Normal mailing folds. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
