EDGAR BUCHANAN
The veteran character actor is shown in a sweater and open collar in this 7½x9½ black and white photograph.
Photograph signed: "Edgar Buchanan". B/w, 7½x9½. Edgar Buchanan (1903-1979, born William Edgar Buchanan in Humansville, Missouri) reportedly got into acting for a very good reason: he had to find some easy subjects to improve his tanking grades in college. He completed dental school (he'd originally wanted to become a dentist like his father), but spent most of the year playing in summer stock companies. Buchanan went on to appear in almost 170 movies and TV shows between 1939 and 1974. Buchanan specialized in grizzled old westerners. His TV roles included Red Connors on Hopalong Cassidy (1952-1954), the title role in Judge Roy Bean (1956) and Uncle Joe Carson in Green Acres (1965-1969). But he's probably known best for his long role as Uncle Joe Larson on Petticoat Junction (1963-1970). His last film, Benji (1974) reunited him with the family dog from Petticoat Junction. Ink notes (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Otherwise, fine condition.
