Extremely rare signed letter from the French artist to a friend,
sending along a photograph and discussing his upcoming trip in November. Dated
1926
Autograph letter signed: "E Maxence", in blue ink, 8¼x10½.
October 28, 1926. In French, sending along a photograph (not included) "This
one is the best of me", saying not to worry about a problem previously
discussed, and that he is currently preparing for his trip in November. Edgar
Maxence (1871-1954) was a symbolist painter in the early 1900's,
known for his expressive portraits of females. He exhibited a great talent at a
young age, winning the 'Premier Logiste' prize in art school for his
portrayal of expressions. In 1900, he was awarded a gold medal at the World
Fair and was also given a Legion of Honour. Multiple folds. Surface creases.
Corners lightly worn and creased. Toned in several locations. Pencil and wax
notes (unknown hand). Large tear on left margin. Otherwise, fine
condition.
