Singer and comedian Edie Adams, born Elizabeth Edith Enke (1927-2008), who appeared on TV's popular Ernie Kovacs Show in the early 1950s, married Kovacs in 1954 (the couple was married until his death in 1962). Known to television audiences for her commercials for Muriel Cigars, she also appeared in several feature films, including The Apartment (1960) and The Best Man (1964). Adams, who received a Tony Award as Daisy Mae in Li'l Abner (1955), portrayed Mae West in a TV biography of her late husband, Ernie Kovacs: Between the Laughter (1984). This book, which covers Adams' early life, her happy years with Kovacs, and her struggle with enormous debts after his death, belonged to Adams herself, and was acquired from the Edie Adams/Ernie Kovacs estate.
