Collection composed of: 1) Costume unsigned. Black chiffon dress with satin ribbon skirt and sleeve cuffs, silver rhinestones and zippered back. Comes with 21x25 ½ black ostrich-feather fan; 2) Book, unsigned, 6¼x9½, 366 pages. Sing a Pretty Song: the "Offbeat" Life of Edie Adams, Including the Ernie Kovacs Years by Edie Adams and Robert Windeler. N.Y: William Morrow and Company, 1990. Hardcover with dust jacket. Costume and book were both obtained from the Ernie Kovacs/Edie Adams estate. Singer and comedian Adams, (1927-2008), born Elizabeth Edith Enke in Kingston, Pennsylvania, appeared on TV's popular Ernie Kovacs Show in the early 1950s and married Kovacs in 1954. (They were married until his death in 1962.) Known to television audiences for her commercials for Muriel Cigars, she also appeared in several feature films, including The Apartment (1960) and The Best Man (1964). Adams, who received a Tony Award as Daisy Mae in Li'l Abner (1955), portrayed Mae West in a TV biography of her late husband, Ernie Kovacs: Between the Laughter (1984). Her autobiography covers her early life, her years with Ernie Kovacs, and her struggle with indebtedness after his death. Dress is water-stained at waist and heavily worn at bust and shoulders, with 1-inch long tear in right shoulder. Otherwise in fine condition. Book is in fine condition.
