Elegant skirt and jacket designed by John Cavanagh, worn by Adams for a 1966 magazine cover, obtained from the estate of the late Ernie Kovacs and Edie Adams
Dress, unsigned. Straight fitted skirt lined in black satin, and single-button jacket with two placket pockets, trimmed with a white collar and lined in cream satin. Adams can be seen wearing this ensemble on a 1966 cover of the Cleveland Press and News, TV Showtime Snapshot. It was part of the Ernie Kovacs/Edie Adams estate. Singer and comedian EDIE ADAMS (1927-2008), born Elizabeth Edith Enke in Kingston, Pennsylvania, appeared on TV's popular Ernie Kovacs Show in the early 1950s, and married Kovacs in 1954 (the couple was married until his death in 1962). Known to television audiences for her commercials for Muriel Cigars, she also appeared in several feature films, including The Apartment (1960) and The Best Man (1964). Adams, who received a Tony Awardas Daisy Mae in Li'l Abner (1955), portrayed Mae West in a TV biography of her late husband, Ernie Kovacs: Between the Laughter (1984). Irish-born John Cavanagh (1914-2003) opened his London fashion house in 1952, and gained fame with men's and women's fashion lines designed for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II the following year. Cavanagh was renowned for his elegant tailoring and keen sense of color. Fine condition.
