leaf), 5x7. Menu and program of the Shakespeare Birthday Banquet of the
Shakespeare Society of Washington, Stoneleigh Court, 1932 April 23. Signed on
p3. British actress Edith Wynne Matthison (1875-1955) met her future
husband, Charles Rann Kennedy while both were actors with the Ben Greet Players
stock company. She became a celebrity in America during the company's 1902 US
tour, playing the title role in Everyman and the part of Rosalind in
As You Like It. She appeared often on Broadway stages over the next two
decades, in classical and modern plays, including some written by her husband.
Seat B7 at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-on-Avon, bears a plaque
honoring Matthison. Front cover and signature page slightly soiled. Mounting
paper remnants on back cover. Otherwise, fine condition.
