EDMOND BREUIL The Consul General pens a letter to General Winfield Scott Hancock stating that he received the general's letter and assuring him that he will transmit an important message on the general's behalf Autograph Letter signed: "Edmond Breuil", in iron gall ink, 2p (front and verso of 1st sheet of integral leaf), 5¼x8¼. New York, 1880 November 29. To "General". In French, translated in full: "I received with the letter that you did me the honor of addressing to me, the 27th of this May, the cover destined for Mr. Reculoux/ I'm sending it to him, to the Minister of the Navy, by my next suitcase, and I'm doing myself, at the same time, the pleasure of transmitting to the Admiral Freysuret the message that you wanted to give me for him./ I remain, General, entirely at your disposal and I implore you to accept the assurance of my devotion and my utmost consideration.". Edmond Breuil was the Consul General of France based in New York. He also served as the Minister of Agriculture and Commerce for the United States, publishing a report on the current state of agricultural practices in the U.S. in 1881. Signer merits further research. Lightly toned. Several vertical and horizontal mailing folds. Ink note (unknown hand) on verso of folded integral leaf. Otherwise, fine condition.
