Av./Grand Rapids/Mich." 2-cent Washington stamp affixed. Addressed the
year after poet, critic and banker Edmund Clarence Stedman (1833-1908) published
The Poets of America (1885), one of his works of criticism. One of
the leading American poets of his time, Stedman published a book of his
collected works, Poems (1908), and compiled A Victorian Anthology
(1895) and An American Anthology (1900). The noted critic also
wrote Victorian Poets (1876). Stedman was also a successful banker and
Wall St. broker. Lightly soiled. Ink smudge beneath period in Mich., ribbon
stain at upper blank margin touches postmark. Two ¼-inch slits where ribbon was
affixed at upper blank margin. Mounting remnant at lower left blank corner on
verso (light show through at blank area). Overall, fine
condition.
