English actress Edna Best (1900-1974) was women's swim champion of
Sussex. Initially a stage performer, she entered films in 1931, and is best
remembered as the mother in the original version of Hitchcock's The Man Who
Knew Too Much (1934). Among her other films were Intermezzo
(1939), Swiss Family Robinson (1940) and The Ghost and Mrs. Muir
(1947). Having appeared on London television as early as 1938 (in an
adaptation of an Agatha Christie story), she won an Emmy in 1957 for
This Happy Breed. Married to actor Herbert Marshall from 1928 to 1940,
she was the mother of another actress, Sarah Marshall. Corners slightly worn.
Slightly toned. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Fine
condition.
