EDNA MAYO
The beautiful silent film actress signs her name on this 6½x8½ sepia photo, where she is pictured sitting in a gown and fur coat. Extremely rare!
Photograph signed: "Edna Mayo/Essanay Co./Chicago", in black ink, sepia tone, 6½x8½. Edna Mayo (1895-1970), born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was a silent film actress. Shortly after the turn of the century she relocated to Hollywood, where she acted in her first role, opposite Robert Z. Leonard in the silent film Michael Arnold and Doctor Lynn. Between 1914 and 1915 she starred in 22 different films, but soon burnt out and starred in only four the following year. After her role in Hearts of Love (1918), she retired from acting and moved to San Francisco, California. Heavily soiled. Faded from aging; signature still clearly legible. Edges and corners slightly worn. Surface ink cracks throughout. Surface creases throughout. Otherwise, fine condition.
