The Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright wrote this letter to a Baltimore
acquaintance in 1988, saying that they wouldn't be able to meet in New York City
Autograph letter signed "Edward Albee". 1 page, 8½x11. Feb. 19, 1988. In full:"Dear Henry:
Nice to hear from you. I'm not planning to come to NYC from Houston (where I'm teaching) the
weekend of Feb 27 & 28. Too bad! Lets [sic] see one another when I'm back in Baltimore next
January - same place, Carlisle apts. Best wishes". Lightly creased. Light dent in bottom right
corner. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition. Accompanied by: Autograph
envelope unsigned. 9¼x4¼. Postmarked Houston, Texas, Feb. 23, 1988. Addressed to
Henry Kahn, Baltimore, Maryland in Albee's hand. One 22¢ "We the People" stamp affixed.
Lightly creased. Address has bled and smeared lightly but is legible. Torn open at top. Normal
postal stamps. Otherwise in fine condition. Three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright
Edward F. Albee (1928-2016) is best known for his 1962 masterpiece, Who's Afraid of
Virginia Woolf?. The work, his first Broadway play, won him a Tony Award and was made
into an award-winning film in 1966. He also won the 2002 Tony Award for Best Play for
The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?. Albee is noteworthy in the theater not only for his works, but
also for his efforts to introduce new talent and techniques.The playwright taught for many
years at the School of Theatre at the University of Houston, also gave writing seminars and
lectures on his work at colleges around the country. Albee won Pulitzer Prizes for A Delicate
Balance (1966), Seascape (1975), and Three Tall Women (1994). Lightly toned.
