EDWARD ANDREWS
A black and white (3½x5¾) candid photograph of the character actor
signed to a fan with "all good wishes"
Inscribed photograph signed: "For Violet/all good wishes/Edward
Andrews", in green ink, B/w 3½x5¾. Readily recognizable character actor
Edward Andrews (1914-1985) was in his forties before finding prominent
roles. After that, he was seen very often on TV from the early 1950s to the
mid-1980s. Andrews could play kindly seniors, such as Molly Ringwald's
grandfather in Sixteen Candles (1984), but also corrupt officials
and sleazy businessman. He personally preferred comedy, as in the Doris Day
vehicle The Glass Bottom Boat (1966), and many of his TV roles
were in sitcoms (such as The Love Boat, The Bob Newhart Show
and Three's Company. His last movie, Warner Bros.'
Gremlins, came out in 1984. This photograph is from the collection
of Francis and Violet Zane, Hawaii natives who moved to California in the
1920's. Francis Zane had a job at the historic Curran Theater and the San
Francisco Opera House, which is where he began his massive collection, with
photographs and materials ranging from the 1920's to 1960's. The location
and luck of his occupation would land him smack dab in the middle of the
celebrity world, allowing him to capture some of the most unique and interesting
pieces of Hollywood History. Corners slightly worn and creased. Fine condition.
