Vintage b/w full-length photo of actor Eddie Quillan in makeup and producer Mack Sennett behind a camera, signed with Quillan's "Kindest regards" in red ink. According to typed notations on verso, this was Quillan's first photograph, taken in 1926.
Inscribed photograph signed "To Sherry Sussman/Behind the camera/is Mack Sennett who discovered/me for motion pictures. This was my first photograph/Hope you like it./Kindest regards/Eddie Quillan" in red ink. Typed label on verso. B/w, 8x10 overall, 7½x9¼ image, one surface.Typed caption on label on verso in part:"It's hard to write on this photo... This photo was taken in 1926 and was the beginning of a long career for me". 1926 was Quillan's first year in films. He appeared in nine films that year: A Love Sundae, The Ghost of Folly, Puppy Lovetime, Alice Be Good, Her Actor Friend, The Perils of Petersboro, Should Husbands Marry? ,Hesitating Horses and Kitty from Killarney. None of these films were directed by Sennett, but they were produced by Mack Sennett Comedies.American actor Quillan (1907-1990) made his first major feature-film appearance when he co-starred in The Godless Girl (1929). He went on to star in such films as The Sophomore (1929), Noisy Neighbors (1929), Big Money (1930) and The Tip-Off (1931). Among his more memorable credits as a supporting actor were Mutiny on the Bounty (1935), Young Mr. Lincoln (1939), The Grapes of Wrath (1940) and It Ain't Hay (1943). Quillan remained active into the 1980s, appearing as a regular on the TV sitcom Julia (1969-1970). Lightly cracked and bowed. Signature has low contrast but is legible. Errors from reproduction show in image. Lightly creased and cracked corners. Otherwise in fine condition.
