Fragment of an autograph letter signed "With thanks for your invitation" by Edward Everett Hale
Autograph fragment signed "Edw. E Hale". Fragment of letter on verso. 5x2½. In full: "With thanks for your initiation, I am Truly yours,". Hale (1822-1909, born in Boston, Massachusetts) was Pastor of the South Congregational Church in Boston (1856-1901) and Chaplain of the U.S. Senate from 1903 to his death. Hale, a prolific author of both history and popular fiction, is best remember today for his patriotic tale Man Without a Country (1863). Lightly toned. Signature has bled lightly but is legible. Show-through from writing and tape on verso touches signature and rest of fragment. Random ink stains. Rounded corners with missing top right corner. Irregular right edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
