EDWARD EVERETT HALE. ALS: "Edw. E. Hale", 1p, 4¼x2½. No place, 1873 July 29. To unnamed recipient. In full: "I have been in Europe for three months, or I would sooner have answered your note." Edward Everett Hale (1822-1909), who is best remembered today for his patriotic tale, Man Without a Country (1863), was a prolific author of both history and popular fiction. He was also Pastor of the South Congregational Church in Boston (1856-1901) and Chaplain of the U.S. Senate from 1903 until his death. Heavy mounting remnants and glue stains on verso (no show through). Lightly soiled. Fine condition.
