Edward Everett Hale wrote this letter on his personalized stationery
in 1891 to acknowledge receipt of a note.
Autograph letter signed "Edw. E Hale". 1 pages, 5¼x8,
on Hale's personalized stationery. Dec. 10, 1891. In full: "Dear Mr.
Haynes: I find your note & [illegible] and am greatly obliged to you
I used to beg [illegible] & [illegible] to put up C.'s head
again - but they never did - and I think there is now no Restaurant there
Always yours". Hale (1822-1909, born in Boston, Massachusetts) was
Pastor of the South Congregational Church in Boston (1856-1901) and Chaplain
of the U.S. Senate from 1903 to his death. Hale, a prolific author of both
history and popular fiction, is best remember today for his patriotic tale
Man Without a Country (1863). Lightly toned, soiled and creased.
Adhesive residue at top left corner. Tape residue on verso (no show-through).
Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
