EDWARD EVERETT HALE. Signature: "Edward E. Hale", 5x1½ slip affixed to 6¾x3½ sheet. Mounting sheet frayed at left and lower edge and slightly soiled in upper left. Signature sheet is in fine condition. Accompanied by Autograph Envelope signed: "E.E. Hale", addressed in his hand to "Mr. Allen/Daily [1 word illegible] Bureau/Newspaper Row". No stamp or postal cancellation. Ink note (unknown hand) at upper left. Lightly creased and soiled. Otherwise, fine condition. Hale (1822-1909) was Pastor of the South Congregational Church in Boston (1856-1901) and Chaplain of the U.S. Senate from 1903 to his death. Hale a prolific author of both history and popular fiction, is best remember today for his patriotic tale, Man Without a Country (1863).Two items.
