Typed sentiment signed "Edward E Hale". Blue ink and lead
pencil on mounting paper in unknown hand. 3x¾ sentiment mounted to a 3x2 card
and a 8½x11 album page with rounded right corners and three binder holes at left
edge. Sentiment in full: "Truly yours,". Hale (1822-1909, born in
Boston, Massachusetts) was Pastor of the South Congregational Church in Boston
(1856-1901) and Chaplain of the U.S. Senate from 1903 to his death. Hale,
a prolific author of both history and popular fiction, is best remember today
for his patriotic tale Man Without a Country (1863). Lightly toned
and creased. Signature is lightly smeared but legible. Adhesive residue on card
and album page. Rust stains in binder holes. Otherwise in fine
condition.
