Robinson signed this contract with Benton and Bowles in 1952 to make the William Morris Agency his agent in return for a 10 percent commission.
Contract signed "Edward G. Robinson" and initialed twice "E. G. R.", all in blue ink. Also signed by a representative of the William Morris Agency as Agent and a representative of Benton & Bowles, Inc. on behalf of General Foods Corporation. 6 pages, 8¼x10¾, single-sided sheets, thin paper, on Benton & Bowles stationery. June 21, 1963. Addressed to Edward G. Robinson, c/o William Morris Agency, Inc., New York City. Robinson signed this contract confirming an earlier agreement between him and Benton & Bowles. Robinson agreed to appear on camera in a series of commercials for Instant Maxwell House Coffee for a term of 14 months, beginning on July, 15, 1963, as well as up to 12 newspaper ads. He was to be paid $50,000 for these commercials, plus an additional $25,000 if Benton & Bowles chose to extend this contract. Robinson (1893-1973, born Emmanuel Goldenberg in Bucharest, Romania) had his first film success in Little Caesar (1931), leading to a series of gangster roles. Later film successes included Double Indemnity (1944), Key Largo (1948), The Cincinnati Kid (1948) and Soylent Green (1973). He learned shortly before his death that he would be awarded an Oscar in 1973 for his outstanding contribution to motion pictures. Lightly toned and creased. Staple holes in upper left edge. Two file holes at top of document. Otherwise in fine condition.
