Manuscript LS: "Edw Livingston", 1p, 8x91/2. No place, no date, but docketed: "New York, Apr. 20, 1827". To William P. Furnand. In part: "I have delayed writing until I have only time to say that as yet I have done nothing with the shares & I fear can do nothing until after the sale...." Integral leaf addressed by him to: "Wm P. Furnand Esq./Philada", franked "Free/Edw Livingston", free and new-york postal markings. Red wax seal, 1¼-inch diameter, next to docket. Livingston served as a Democrat representing New York in the House of Representatives (1795-1801) and Louisiana in the House (1823-1829) and in the U.S. Senate (1829-1831). He was on General Andrew Jackson's staff at the Battle of New Orleans in 1815 and served as Jackson's Secretary of State (1831-1833). From 1833-1835, he was U.S. Minister to France. His older brother, Robert R. Livingston, had been U.S. Minister to France (1801-1804) at the time of the Louisiana Purchase. Integral leaf foxed. Both pages are lightly soiled, tanned, chipped at edges. Fragile, but overall, fine condition.
