Youthful image of the former Congressman, released from federal prison in time for his son's wedding to Chelsea Clinton
Photograph signed: "Best Wishes/Ed". B/w, 8x10¼. Democrat Edward Mezvinsky (b. 1937) served two terms in the US Congress, representing Iowa's First Congressional District. There he met and married Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky, who would later serve a term in Congress from Pennsylvania. Defeated in his bid for a third term, Mezvinsky moved to his wife's home state of Pennsylvania, seeking office there several times without success. In 2001, he suffered bankruptcy, followed by federal prosecution for fraud, ultimately serving 5 years in law-security prison (2003-2008). Astonishingly, Mezvinsky had fallen for a series of Nigerian e-mail scams, himself swindling friends and associates in the process. (These developments torpedoes his wife's political prospects, as well as his own. She had been running for the US Senate when the story broke.) In 2010, Mezvinsky's son Marc, an investment banker, married former Presidential daughter Chelsea Clinton. Corners slightly worn and creased. Slightly toned. Bottom left corner creased. Ink notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
