Edward R. Squibb signs a receipt for a buyer's purchased items.
Partly Printed Manuscript Document Signed: "Received payment from Dr Brent as Treasurer E.R. Squibb", 1p, 8½x7 lined sheet. Brooklyn, New York, 1869 April 10. Receipt of items bought from Edward R. Squibb, M.D. by the Kings Country Medical Society. Squibb (1819-1900) founded a chemical and pharmaceutical laboratory in Brooklyn. In 1892, the firm, which was dedicated to the production of consistently pure medications, became E.R. Squibb & Sons. Although he didn't live to see it, Squibb's lifelong crusade for safe, reliable pharmaceutical products became a reality with the passage of the Pure Food and Drug Act in 1906, the year after his sons sold the firm.In 1989, Squibb, which had grown into a multinational operation, merged with Bristol-Myers. Today, Bristol-Myers Squibb carries 28 product lines with sales in the $20 billion range worldwide. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature but touching four words of writing (all legible). ¼-inch tear at lower left edge above revenue stamp. Heavily shaded on verso, rectangular show through at left portion and vertical strip at right portion. Overall, fine condition.
