In part: "I have been applied to to (sic) act as an expert for the Defendant in a suit by Gordon McKay under the following patents for machines for sewing boots & shoes...." During the Civil War, inventor Renwick had designed an iron-clad vessel of large capacity and powerful engines, with great speed, capable of carrying a heavy battery. Heavy mounting remnant on blank verso shows through touching some text to signature page, but not signature. Lightly creased. Folds, not at signature.
