Autograph Document Signed: "Edward Stanley", 1p, 6¾x3¾. No place, circa 1825. In full: "Mr George Oliver has entered to an unlimited Attendance on the Anatomical Lectures and to two Courses of Dissections". English physician and anatomist Edward Stanley (1793-1862), who studied under John Abernethy, began his career as Assistant Surgeon to St. Bartholomew's Hospital in 1816 at the age of 24. Known for being one of the great teachers of his day, Stanley was Demonstrator of Anatomy and then Lecturer on Anatomy and Physiology at St. Bartholomew's before becoming President of the Royal Medico-Chirurgical Society in 1843. He was appointed Surgeon Extraordinary to Queen Victoria in 1858. In addition to his lectures, Stanley was well known for his writings and for his contributions to the Museum at St. Bartholomew's. Lightly creased with folds, light vertical fold at the "w" of Edward. Lightly shaded and soiled. Ink note (unknown hand) at lower margin. Overall, fine condition.
