Autograph letter signed: "E.T. Bartlett" in black ink. 1 page, 5½x8½. New York, 1887 February 8. To Mr. Lehmaier (sic) on Law Offices of Bartlett, Wilson & Hayden stationery. In part: "It is my intention to speak on behalf of our Club, and I do not object to the form of the toast of the Committee as understand it (sic). If on the other hand it is regarded as 'bad form' to put forward our Club at the dinner the toast had better be dropped out entirely....". JAMES S. LEHMAIR was Secretary of the Republican League of the State of New York. Republican New York lawyer EDWARD T. BARTLETT(1841-1910) was known for his unsuccessful campaign for New York Supreme Court in 1891, and for his tenure as a judge for the New York Court of Appeals, a position he held from 1893 until his death in 1910.
