EDWARD M."TED" KENNEDY
On US Senate letterhead, he sends condolences to the mother of
photographer Frank Teti, "a good and loyal friend to all the members of the
Kennedy family".
Typed Letter signed: "Ted Kennedy" as US Senator,
1 page, 6¼x8½. Included is the original mailing envelope. Washington,
D.C., 1988 April 29. On Senate letterhead to Mrs. Michael Teti, New York, N.
Y. In full: "It was with great saddness [sic] that I learned of
Frank's death. He had been a good and loyal friend to all the members of the
Kennedy family and we shall miss him very much. Frank was an excellent
photographer whose work we admired, and his work is a magnificent legacy of
which you can be most proud. The members of my family particularly enjoyed his
book about the new generation of Kennedys. It was very well done - with warmth
and integrity - and I was happy to be asked to write the preface for it. It has
become a valuable reference and I have given it as gifts on my trips to foreign
countries. It was received with great pleasure. I know that the loss of a child
is the greatest grief that there is. Perhaps with time the pain will lessen, and
I hope that the knowledge of how much Frank was loved and respected will help to
make this difficult time more bearable. With my deepest sympathy". The
younger brother of President John F. Kennedy and the youngest son of Ambassador
Joseph Kennedy, Edward M. "Ted" Kennedy (1932-2009) was first
elected to the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts in 1962 to fill the seat
vacated by his brother the President- serving until his death. Maturing
from "kid brother" of the President into a national spokesman for liberal
causes, he challenged incumbent President Jimmy Carter for the Democratic
nomination in 1980, but fell short. Beset by personal tragedies, some of his
own making, Ted Kennedy remained an eloquent and important voice in the Senate
and in his party. His son Patrick became a U.S. Representative from Rhode
Island. Normal mailing fold. Corners slightly worn. Fine
condition.
