The editor and author signs a quote on an envelope bearing the name
of the magazine he worked for, "The Ladies' Home Journal"
Autograph quotation signed: "An obstacle is simply a difficulty/To
overcome/Edward Bok", in black ink, 5½x3½. Edward Bok (1863-1930)
moved as a child from the Netherlands to the U.S. As editor of the "The
Ladies' Home Journal" (1889-1919), he campaigned for pure food and drug laws
and public beautification. Bok also published important fiction and articles
by several Presidents. In 1923, he donated $100,000 for a prize for the best
plan for achieving universal peace. Bok won the 1921 Pulitzer Prize for
his autobiography, The Americanization of Edward Bok. Stain on
bottom left corner. Corners slightly worn and creased. Light surface creases.
Small stain on right margin. Toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
