months before his death
Typed Letter signed: "Edward W. Bok", 1 page, 5½x6½.
Packard Building, Philadelphia, 1929 April 19. On his personal office
letterhead to Miss Jean Feldman, in full: "I am very glad to send you
this letter, as you ask, and to extend to you my best wishes for your future.
Thanking you for what you say about my book, believe me, Very cordially
yours". Ink note (unknown hand) at upper left states (incorrectly) the month
of his death.Edward W. Bok (1863-1930) moved as a child from the
Netherlands to the U.S. As editor of the "The Ladies' Home Journal"
(1889-1919), he campaigned for pure food and drug laws and public
beautification. Bok also published important fiction and articles by several
Presidents. In 1923, he donated $100,000 for a prize for the best plan for
achieving universal peace. Bok won the 1921 Pulitzer Prize for his
autobiography, The Americanization of Edward Bok. Bok died on
January 9, 1930, less than nine months after he signed this letter. Toned.
