Autograph letter signed: "Edwin Newman" in black ink. 1 page, 8½x11. Written underneath typed letter written to Newman from a fan, Charles Irion of Phoenix, Arizona. In full: "Dear Charles: Glad you enjoyed the book. Right now, my work is mostly lecturing, but also some TV as a free lance, and even a bit part in a movie now and then - most recently "The Pelican Brief"". Edwin Newman (1919-2010), a respected broadcast news reporter who moderated Presidential debates in 1976 and 1984, was most known for his work with NBC's radio and televised news programs. Specializing in breaking news, it was Newman's voice that first made the announcement on NBC radio that President Kennedy had been shot, and he would also anchor the news coverage on Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination. He covered several other hot button topics during his time with NBC, being the go to guy when a new story broke out. After leaving NBC, he worked in daytime television, being nominated for 3 and winning one daytime Emmy. Normal mailing folds. Lightly toned. Corners creased. Light surface creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
