EDWIN THOMAS MEREDITH
Signed autograph letter (1921) thanking a Mrs. Scribner after his visit to her country home and garden (a professional interest)
Autograph Letter signed: "Tom Meredith", 2 pages (integral leaf), 4½x7. No place, 1921 September 4. On letterhead of the National Club Toronto to Mrs. Scribner. In full: "My visit to your charming country home was a most pleasant event in my 'World Tour' of which I carry home so many memories. I wish I had been able to stay till later in the day & see your garden more thoroughly, but this I trust you will allow me to do on my next visit to New York which will not, I trust, be very long delayed. And I beg that I may be told in good time when you next place a European tour. Believe me yours very sincerely". Edwin Thomas Meredith (1876-1928) published Successful Farming, a magazine with a circulation of 600,000 in 9 states. He was Secretary of Agriculture in the final year of the Wilson Presidency (1920-1921). In 1922 he founded a new magazine, Fruit, Gardens and Homes, which later became Better Homes and Gardens. His is enshrined in the Advertising Hall of Fame, and was named by Professional Remodeler in 2008 as one of the 11 most influential people in the history of home remodeling. Normal fold creases. Ink transfer to blank page bleeds through lightly. Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
