Signature on a sheet bearing two magazine photos of her
Signature: "Effie Shannon", 5½x8½. Written on stationery of
Boston's Hotel Bellevue, to which 2 magazine photos of her are affixed. The
sheet is affixed to a larger one bearing a postmark: Boston, Massachusetts,
October 9, 1906. Effie Shannon (1867-1954) spent almost 60 years on
Broadway stages, debuting in Tangled Lives (1886), and making her final
appearance in Arsenic and Old Lace (1944). She built a shorter but still
significant resume in silent films like The Sphinx (as the title
character, an exotic dancer having simultaneous affairs with a father and son,
1916), and moving to character roles. She made one talking film, The Wiser
Sex (1932). Toned and creased. Adhesive residue throughout sheet. Crease
through signature (legible). Otherwise, fine condition.
