The son of violinist Efrem Zimbalist and opera star Alma Gluck, Efrem
Zimbalist, Jr., born in 1918, made his film debut in 1949's House of a
Stranger. Although he appeared in a number of films - including the 1991
action-flick satire Hot Shots!, which showcased his comedic flair -
Zimbalist achieved stardom on the small screen. From 1958 to 1964, he
starred as suave private detective Stuart Bailey on 77 Sunset Strip,
which earned him one of his two Emmy Award nomination, and in 1965, hebegan his nine-season run as Inspector Lew Erskine on The FBI,
which earned him one of his three Golden Globe nominations. He later
appeared as con artist Daniel Chalmers on his daughter Stephanie's weekly series
Remington Steele (1982-1987) and as the voice of faithful butler Alfred
on numerous Batman animated series in the 1990s and 2000's, and has guest
starred in a number of other series, including Babylon 5 (1997).
Zimbalist also appeared six times on Broadway between 1945 and 1956 and produced
four Broadway productions between 1947 and 1950. Lightly creased and bowed.
