Small 6¾x9 b/w publicity photograph for ABC's series The FBI
with show stars Efrem Zimbalist, Jr., Stephen Brooks and Philip Abbott. Signed
by Zimbalist, who plated Inspector Lewis Erskine, "with my warmest
regards".
Inscribed photograph signed "for Tom Parry/with my
warmest/regards/Efrem Zimbalist Jr." in blue ink. Pencil notations on verso
in unknown hand. B/w, 6¾x9 overall, 6½x8½ image, one surface. Shown with Stephen
Brooks and Philip Abbott, his co-stars on The FBI. (1965-1974). The show
was produced with the cooperation of FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover until his
death in 1972. Zimbalist starred as Inspector Lewis Erskine, Reynolds was
Agent Tom Colby (1967-1974) and Abbott was Agent Arthur Ward. The son
of violinist Efrem Zimbalist and opera star Alma Gluck, Efrem Zimbalist, Jr.,
born in 1918, made his film debut in 1949's House of a Stranger.
Although he appeared in a number of films - including the 1991 action-flick
satire Hot Shots!, which showcased his comedic flair - Zimbalist
achieved stardom on the small screen. From 1958 to 1964, he starred as
suave private detective Stuart Bailey on 77 Sunset Strip, which earned
him one of his two Emmy Award nomination, and in 1965, hebegan his
nine-season run as Inspector Lew Erskine on The FBI, which earned him
one of his three Golden Globe nominations. He later appeared as con artist
Daniel Chalmers on his daughter Stephanie's weekly series Remington
Steele (1982-1987) and as the voice of faithful butler Alfred on numerous
Batman animated series in the 1990s and 2000's, and has guest starred in
a number of other series, including Babylon 5 (1997). Zimbalist also
appeared six times on Broadway between 1945 and 1956 and produced four Broadway
productions between 1947 and 1950. Lightly toned, creased and bowed. Signature
has poor adhesion in places but is legible. Paper clip impression in right edge.
Light impressions on image (not visible head-on). Otherwise in fine
condition.
