Photograph signed "Efrem Zimbalist Jr.". Black ink notations on verso in unknown hand. B/w, 3½x4¾. Publicity photo from 77 Sunset Strip (1958-1964). Zimbalist is shown at the wheel of a Ford Thunderbird, often seen in the show, with fellow star Edd Byrnes, who played Gerald Lloyd Kookson III AKA Kookie. Zimbalist's performance as private eye Stuart Bailey earned him an Emmy Award nomination in 1959. The son of violinist Efrem Zimbalist and opera star Alma Gluck, Efrem Zimbalist, Jr., born in 1918, made his film debut in 1949's House of a Stranger. Although he appeared in a number of films - including the 1991 action-flick satire Hot Shots!, which showcased his comedic flair - Zimbalist achieved stardom on the small screen. From 1958 to 1964, he starred as suave private detective Stuart Bailey on 77 Sunset Strip, which earned him one of his two Emmy Award nomination, and in 1965, hebegan his nine-season run as Inspector Lew Erskine on The FBI, which earned him one of his three Golden Globe nominations. He later appeared as con artist Daniel Chalmers on his daughter Stephanie's weekly series Remington Steele (1982-1987) and as the voice of faithful butler Alfred on numerous Batman animated series in the 1990s and 2000's, and has guest starred in a number of other series, including Babylon 5 (1997). Zimbalist also appeared six times on Broadway between 1945 and 1956 and produced four Broadway productions between 1947 and 1950. Lightly bowed, otherwise in fine condition.
