Very Rare Autograph Letter signed: El Brendel", 1 page, 7¼x10½. Hollywood, California, 1941 May 31. To "Dear Fred", in full: "My hobby is just to make people laugh, if they laugh, I know they are happy and that makes me happy. So I really have a Happy Hobby. Wishing you good health and happiness, Sincerely". El Brendel (1890-1964) was a vaudeville entertainer with a trademark false Swedish accent, given to expressions like "Yumpin Yiminy." From 1929 to 1931 he appeared in many Fox Studio films in comic relief roles. Occasionally, as in Just Imagine (1930), he was the top-billed star. Later he made two-reel comedies for Columbia Pictures, including Blitzkiss (1941). In the 1950s he made a comeback with guest spots on television. Tape remnant at corners. Fold crease not at signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
