ELDON DEDINI
Short letter written and signed by cartoonist Eldon Dedini in 1986. Dedini is known for his raunchy satyr and nymph cartoons in Playboy, but says in this letter that he also drew storyboards for Walt Disney Studios in the mid-1940s.
Autograph letter signed "Eldon Dedini". 1 page, 8½x11. Nov. 15, 1986. In full: "Dear Steven Moore - I drew story boards for Walt Disney Studios from 1944 to 1946. A great place to work! Greetings,". American cartoonist Dedini (1921-2006) brought a classical sensibility to the raunchy cartoons that he drew for Playboy, which were liberally sprinkled with peeping Tom satyrs and Rubenesque nymphs. He was a staff cartoonist at Esquire in 1942 and moved to The New Yorker in 1950. He began contributing to Playboy in 1960. He also won the National Cartoonists Society's Gag Cartoon Award four times (1958, 1961, 1964 and 1968). Dedini was also an editorial cartoonist early in his career and - a moment of cognitive dissonance here, considering the Bacchanalian bawdiness of his cartoons - drew storyboards for Walt Disney. Fantagraphics published a collection of his cartoons, An Orgy of Playboy's Dedini, in 2006. Lightly toned and creased. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
