Check No. 851, drawn on her account at City National Bank, Head Office, Beverly Hills, California, payable to Adohr Farms for $14.47. Stamped endorsement on verso. Slightly creased with mid-vertical fold, not at signature. Bank stamp and light show through of bank stamps on front. Staple holes at lower left blank margin. Overall, fine condition. Accompanied by photograph, unsigned. B/w, 9¾x8 overall, image 9¼x6½ (one surface). Publicity still for the 1936 musical, That's Dancing!, which starred Powell as Nora Paige. ©1935, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Corporation. Captioned at lower margin: "ELEANOR POWELL, America's Queen of Tap, in the glamorous 'Broadway Rhythm' sequence from 'BROADWAY MELODY OF 1936,' which is featured in MGM's motion picture extravaganza, 'THAT'S DANCING!'". Slightly creased at blank margins, black mark at upper right corner. Minor surface creases (not evident head on). Fine condition. Eleanor Powell (1912-1982) was a featured dancer in several Broadway reviews, then was cast in Hollywood musicals from 1934. Praised starring roles included Lady Be Good (1941) and Ship Ahoy (1942). Professionally inactive during her marriage to Glenn Ford (1943-1959), she returned to the limelight thereafter with a popular nightclub show which played in New York and Las Vegas. For many years, her tap dancing act was considered one of the best in the country. In 1984, she was honored with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contributions to early film through her acting and singing performances. Two items.
