ELENA VERDUGO. Photograph inscribed and signed: "For Warren./Fondly/Elena Verdugo". B/w with sepia hue, 10x8 overall, image 9½x7 (one surface). Still from the 1952 film, Jet Job, in which Verdugo starred as Marge Stevens. In the year this film was released, she also appeared on the big screen in The Pathfinder and Thief of Damascus, and she began starring in her own television series, Meet Millie (1952-1956). Born in California in 1926 of an old Spanish family, Elena Verdugo began her film career playing Mexican women and various exotic foreigners in Hollywood films of the 1940s and early 1950s. Starring roles included Tuna Clipper (1949) and some Gene Autry Westerns, including The Big Sombrero (also 1949). Active in TV supporting roles into the 1980s, Verdugo is best remembered as nurse Consuelo Lopez on Marcus Welby, M.D. (1969-1976), for which she was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1972 and a Golden Globe in 1973 in the best supporting actress categories. Verdugo, who briefly sang with Xavier Cugat's band in the early 1940s, recorded their song, "Tico-Tico". Her first husband was writer Charles R. Marion (1946 until their divorce in 1955), the father of her son, actor/director Richard Marion. Lightly creased and shaded at blank margins, damp stained at upper left corner and background. Minor surface scratches and striations (most not evident head on). Overall, fine condition.
