Actress Elisabeth Bergner (circa 1900-1986), born Elisabeth Ettel in
Vienna, Austria, was nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for
Escape Me Never (1935). Bergner, who debuted on the stage in Switzerland,
began making films in Germany in 1923. Her only Hollywood production,
Paris Calling (1941), was one of the earliest French underground
adventures and co-starred Basil Rathbone, Randolph Scott and Lee J. Cobb.
Bergner published her memoirs in 1987. Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New
York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening,
making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered
album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to
sign in fountain pen. Corners worn and creased. Lightly toned around edges.
