The French aviatrix signs an FDC honoring another female pioneer of flight.
First Day Cover signed: "Elisabeth Boselli", 6¼x3½. FDC honoring pioneer pilot Blanche Stuart Scott, postmarked Hammondsport, New York, December 30, 1980, 28-cent stamp affixed, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. French flyer Elisabeth Boselli (1914-2005) received her pilot's license before the country grounded unofficial civilian flights on the eve of World War II. In 1944, Boselli became one of two pilots in the First Female Squadron of the French Air Force. During the French war in Algeria, she flew air mail deliveries to remote bases, earning the nickname "the letter carrier from heaven." She notched eight speed and distance records for female pilots, including glider records. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Fine condition.
