Signature: "E. Embree/ Princeton/ Indiana" in black ink. 3¾x1½ clipping. Elisha Embree (1801-1863) was a United States Representative from Indiana. After limited schooling, Embree began his career in agriculture before studying law and commencing practice in Princeton, Indiana. After serving as the fourth circuit judge of Indiana (1835-1845), he was nominated as the Whig candidate for Governor of Indiana in 1849, but declined, instead running for Congress. He served in the U.S House of Representatives from 1847-1849 but was unsuccessful in his reelection. Irregularly cut. Toned. Left and right edges frayed. Stained throughout. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
