Landi". B/w, 8x10. M-G-M publicity photograph. Identifying ink notes
(unknown hand) on verso note that this autograph was obtained at "Longacre Stage
Door./'The Lady Has a Heart'/Thurs. Sept. 30, 1937". In the year she
signed this photograph, Landi appeared in one feature film, The Thirteenth
Chair. Elissa Landi (1904-1948), born Elizabeth Marie Christine Kühnelt
in Venice, Italy, began her acting career on the stage, and she received rave
reviews for her London stage debut in The Storm. Landi starred in
several European films before making her U.S. debut in Body and Soul
(1931). Her other feature films include The Sign of the Cross (1932),
The Warrior's Husband (1933), The Count of Monte Cristo
(1934) and After the Thin Man (1936). After her last film was
released in 1943, Landi concentrated on writing, authoring six novels as well
as books of poetry. Lightly creased at blank margins and corners, lightly
soiled at lower left corner and margin. Minor surface creases and impressions
(most not evident head on). Light glue stains at upper margin on verso (no show
through). Fine condition.
