Make-up pioneer Elizabeth Arden signed this typed letter in 1960, thanking the recipient for "the enchanting little roses".
Typed letter signed "Elizabeth Arden" in blue ink. 1 page, 8x10, with thin white border. March 15, 1960. Addressed to Miss Nell Stadler. In full: "Dear Miss Stadler, It was kind of you to send me the enchanting little roses. They were lovely and gave me so much joy and pleasure. Thank you a thousand times. I wish my stay had not been so short and I am terribly sorry I didn't have time to visit the office but I promise I will next time. Lots of good wishes and thank again for your sweet thought. Affectionately,". Former nursing student Florence Nightingale Graham (1884-1966) went into a beauty salon partnership with Elizabeth Hubbard on New York's Fifth Avenue in 1910. After the partnership split up, the Canadian-born Florence, who continued the business under the name Elizabeth Arden, hired chemists to create the first in a line of 300 beauty products. A pioneer in the advertising of cosmetics, Elizabeth Arden popularized makeup at a time when beauty aids were thought to be used by "low women". In 1922, she expanded her American enterprise to Paris. At the time of her death in 1966, there were 100 Elizabeth Arden beauty salons worldwide, offering hair styling, facials, massages and other beauty services behind their famous "Red Doors". Lightly toned and creased. Light nick in right edge. Lighty discolored in bottom right edge. Folded in half vertically and twice vertically. Otherwise in fine condition.
