Handwritten, signed letter from the Newberry Medal winning author,
thanking a friend for their lovely party and saying her garden "touches the
imagination". Signed with her married name, extremely rare!
Autograph letter signed: "Elizabeth Beston", in blue ink,
6x9½. August 7, 1950. Nobleboro, Maine. In part: "Dear Mrs.
Huntington, Such a pretty party and such a nice party! We all had a lovely time
and one that we shall remember like a poem. Everything about your garden touches
the imagination". American author Elizabeth Coatsworth (1893-1986)
wrote primarily fiction and poetry for children, winning a Newberry Medal
in 1931 for her story The Cat Who Went to Heaven. Publishing over 90
books in her career, Coatsworth was heavily influenced by her travels across
Asia, with Asian influences appearing in many of her stories. She was
married to author Henry Beston. Normal mailing folds. Toned. Stains from
paperclip on top margin and center of page. Light surface creases. Corners
slightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
