ELIZABETH HUBBARD
Signed letter from the actress to a fan with cancer, saying she is unsure of how her battle is going, but that she hopes the poem "Man With Wooden Leg Escapes Prison" might be inspiring to her
Typed letter signed: "xx/Liz", in purple felt tip, 2 pages (integral leaf), 11x8½ open flat, 5½x8½ closed. In full: "I don't know how Lucinda's cancer story will be playing out, but here is a poem chosen by Peter Jennings for inclusion in "Poems for Life", and his comments on it. "...I like this poem because it introduces young readers to the idea that poems don't have to rhyme, and the poems can tell stories. It has a good message about perseverance, and determination and adaption...". She goes on to list the poem "Man With Wooden Leg Escapes Prison" by James Tate. Elizabeth Hubbard (b. 1933) made her first soap opera appearance on The Guiding Light in 1962. She is best known, however, for her roles as Dr. Althea Davis on The Doctors (1964-1982, with interruptions) and Lucinda Walsh on As the World Turns (1984-2010). Nominated for many Daytime Emmy Awards, she scored the first of her two wins as First Lady Edith Bolling Wilson in First Ladies' Diaries (1976). She appeared in a Dutch soap opera in 2009, being already well known in that country from broadcasts of As the World Turns. Hubbard has made occasional guest visits to prime time TV, in series like The Virginian and Law & Order, and in feature films (Ordinary People, 1980). Light surface creases. Corners lightly worn. Pencil notes (unknown hand). Hubbard's signature bleeds through to verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
